Well, I think that is what we should call the new cloak that has just covered the University of Nigeria since the Vice Chancellor had a meeting with stakeholders on creation of Blogs in the University. I call it a course because everyone in UNN now wants to learn how to blog. The University has even gone ahead to make available course manuals for the students. (Just in case you need the manuals, click here to download http://www.unn.edu.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/UNN_Blog.pdf)
According to the Vice Chancellor, as part of his plans to maintain the University’s Webometric’s ranking and visibility, he needs at 10,000 blogs all linked to the school’s website. So, he came up with a promo, any UNN student that can give him 500 blogs within a week will be rewarded with 10,000 naira while a Department that can give him 1,000 blogs will be rewarded with 25,000 naira.
Trust Lions and Lionesses na! They did not even wait for me to buy okpa and everyone was all over PAA and Records struggling to create their own blogs.Blogging is now a trending word in UNN, it is on the lips of virtually everyone on campus, including the staff. Yes! the competition was also thrown open to the staff.
The interesting thing about it all is that it is now a business venture, the Cyber Cafes around the Campus have devised their own means of attracting prospective bloggers. Students on their own parts have devised their own means, broadcast messages are flying all around Whatsapp and Lionwoo. A friend of mine told me that a girl in her Hall has been going round opening blogs for her fellow students for just a token.
I do not want to appear as a pessimist so, I am gonna drop my pen here and allow you draw your own conclusions…my Friend, Sen. Kcee Okenwa summed up his own thoughts in a Facebook post he shared today (see Screenshot below) you can drop your comments in the box below.Sen. Kcee Okenwa’s Facebook Post
