2017 International Youth Day: University of Nigeria set to mark event


The University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus is set to mark this year’s International Youth Day in a grand style.

According to a notice made available on the school’s website signed by the Associate Dean, Students Affairs, UNEC, Prof. Edith Nwosu, this year’s celebration shall be held on Friday, 11th August, 2017.

The International Youth Day is a day set out by the United Nations through the 1999 Resolution 54/1201999 to create awareness and draw attention to a cultural and legal issues surrounding Youth. The celebration which is marked globally on the 12th of August every year was first celebrated in 2000. The celebration is marked by Concerts, workshops, Cultural events and meetings involving Government and Youth organisations.

To mark the event, the Students Affairs Department of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus is organising an essay competition for students within the campus on the topic “The Role of Youths in National Integration”. The first prize winner will go home with the sum of #50,000, second prize winner goes home with #30,000 while the third placed goes with #20,000. The theme of last year’s celebration was “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production” while this year’s theme is “Youth building Peace”.
